Finally knocking off another astronomy bucket list item, capturing a supernova. (I also want to see one visually, but that’s unlikely this time due to the wildfire smoke.) Anyway, about 3 weeks ago a supernova began growing in the nearby galaxy NGC 7331, designated SN2025rbs. I was able to get favorable weather and a relative break in the persistent wildfire smoke to capture about 7 hours of data. Above is a single 3 minute subframe. I’ve begun processing, but this one will be tricky to process and still see the supernova, I’m going to try masking the core to keep it much darker than I normally would, hopefully it will be visible in the stacked product.
