M51 – Finding all the Small Galaxies

I was reprocessing some older data, and I decided to go down the rabbit hole trying to find all the galaxies in the picture and how far away they are.  I wasn’t able to find data on all of them, but it’s just mind-blowing to me that I was able to look back in time by 1.6 Billion years with a backyard telescope and a simple Canon camera.

List of distances for the annotated galaxies that I was able to find.
